HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GOD BLESS YOU!

DID SOMEONE SNEEZE?

Why do we say "God Bless You" when we sneeze?  You can thank Pope Gregory I, who some called "Gregory the Great".

It was the year 600 - and lots of people were getting the plague, basically.  So this Pope says "hey - when you sneeze, you're probably starting to get sick - let's say 'God Bless You'" to make sure we do everything we can to prevent this sickness."   And it stuck.

Some also say the reason we say "God Bless You" when we sneeze, is because the act of sneezing leaves the body spiritually unguarded, giving an opportunity for the Devil to enter the soul.  So to keep the Devil out, you say "God bless You"

Whatever the real reason, Pope Gregory I invented "God Bless You" after the sneeze on this day, February 16 the year 600.

Now you have a history lesson.

yay!
