Ben Lyons will host this Sunday's Macklemore & Ryan Lewis show at Turner Hall. Listen to my interview with him to find out how to get free tickets...and then, of course...I make it awkward!!
I just wanted to give a quick thanks to Milwaukee...yes, the city as a whole. My mom came into town from Iowa this weekend. It was the first time since I've been here that she has visited on her own for a full girl's weekend. I so hoped she would love the Brew City as much as I do. SUCCESS!! I will tell you she left impressed and FULL! I showed her around downtown, took her to some of my favorite restaurants and introduced her to some of my dearest friends.
Every city has a great restaurant or a pretty view to show off, but what I was most proud of was how friendly everyone was. She kept commenting on how all of us "young kids" were so respectful and genuinely seemed to want to chat with her and I'm not just talking about my friends. Everyone from the waitress at lunch to the clerk at the mall made me so proud to be in this city.
So, thanks to Milwaukee, the city, for making me proud...not that I didn't think you would. It was important to me that my mama saw in you what I do!
I'm not going to take the first part of this blog to fill you in on the recent tragedy in the world. You've seen the pics, the vids, etc. What I am going to do is take a second to point out the good in the world, It's during these horrific events, that some of our greatest societal moments occur. The best of humanity is shown when the worst is present. I'm talking about the marathon runners that crossed the finish line and kept running to the nearest hospital to donate blood. I'm talking about the people who live around the finish line that gave food, drinks, shelter, phone charging stations, etc. I'm talking about the bars and restaurants that opened their doors and provided a place for families to rest as they waited to hear word from their loved ones.
If we dwell on the negative, live in fear and stay angry, the bad guys win. I refuse to let that happen. Do situations like this lead you to be a little more cautious...at least immediately? Of course. But, I will not change my plans. I will not put off doing something out of fear. What I will do is spend my extra time thinking about the good in people. The good that was shown by the people of Boston, the first responders and marathon participants. Those that perished would not want their legacy clouded by anger and hate. That hate is what perpetuated the evil-doers into their actions in the first place. Let's really piss off the bad guy and rise above!
Made it into my first Brewers game of the season last night and let me tell you, it was delicious! Nope! I'm not talking about the cute boys...although how do those pants make the players butts look like that? I'm talking about all of the food I inhaled. I'm not much of a sports person but I love the bevs, the snacks and the friends at a Brewers game!
Last night I tried two new things - Poutine and The Food Network's Brat Mac N Cheese. AAAAHHHHH! SO YUMMY! Poutine is a Canadian dish that has fries, gravy and cheese curds - all of the major food groups. I will be indulging again! But the best...THE BEST was the Food Network stand. It can be found in section 222 and offers various, gourmet mac n cheeses. My friend, Susan, tipped me off to this dish and I owe her my life. I don't generally eat meat but this brat mac n cheese may be the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. EAT IT ASAP!
What's your must eat dish, snack, food at the ballpark?
I'm sure, by now, you've heard we have a brand spankin' new KISS studio. It's fancy...or it will be. I love a good construction worker like the next lady, but we're spending a lot of quality time together and we may be getting a lil sick of eath other. We have a new control board, new mics, sparkley new decor and the carpet is stain free (until Wes gets back from vacay). It's going to be awesome. However, right now, as I type this blog, the fumes from whatevs they're doing on the other side of the room are making me loopy...more loopy that usual. This should be an interesting show...Whhoooooooo!
Have you been thinking about trying something new? Making more money doing something you actually enjoy...SHOCKING, I know! It's possible and it's possible with Brensten Education!
I had the opportunity to check out their newly remodeled school yesterday and I was blown away. I remember going to lectures with 300 people in the dungeon-like basement of some ancient building listening to a professor drone on and on about...well...I have no clue what about. NOT at Brensten! Their classes are usually 12-15 people, in bright, high tech labs with HANDS ON LEARNING!
This isn't a school with, like, 500 majors. Brensten Education's focus is on getting you a job in Digital Marketing and/or Help Desk. They will get you the certification you need to GET THE JOB! If you follow their program you will succeed and they're not going to give up on you until you get that new job in your field!
Too good to be true? NOPERS! See for yourself. They're having an open house Thursday, March 28th at 6p. There will be free food and one lucky person will win FREE TUITION! It's only going to take 45 minutes and could change your entire life. Head to http://www.bse.edu to register.
This past weekend was the quintessential girls weekend in my world. My favorite ladies from college drove and flew in from all over to spend some quality girl time together. I NEEDED IT! Sometimes it takes the honesty that can only be delivered by a group of your besties to bring you back to reality and help you escape it all at the same time.
We laughed. We ate. We reminisced. We ate again. And then, we ate while we laughed and reminisced. We were the loud table of "woo girls" at the restaurant and those dueling piano players didn't stand a chance against us and our incessant Carly Rae Jepsen requests.
My friendships with these ladies are some of the most special relationships in my life. They know me better than most and love me anyway. I would consider myself lucky to one relationship like this and am truly blessed to have eight.
While there will be one and only one wedding in my life, I'm super ticked I didn't think of this when it was my turn! Check out the best Disney wedding I've ever seen...and trust me...I've stalked a lot of them!
I have to be honest...I DO NOT miss the snow. As mild winter number two rolls on, today is the one of a couple of potential snow days and that's more than enough. I don't ski. I don't snowboard. I've tried. I took lessons...twice. I have no coordination. You can't be shocked by this revelation. I don't snowmobile. Although, I do enjoy those miniature snowmobile road signs on the side of the road. Those would make for a fun obstacle course sometime. When it's warm. I don't snowshoe. Honestly, I don't get the point of snowshoeing. Laura Ingalls Wilder didn't like it when she was snowed in her Little House on the Prairie. Why would I like it now?
So, today we may get up to six inches of snow. Some are rejoicing. I am not. I grew up in the Midwest. I understand it's a part of the deal and I appreciate how this bulky sweater hides my winter blubber but let's get this over with.
Hey boat season!! I'm talkin' to you! I miss your face. Let's reconnect soon!
