I'm a hardcore Halloween junkie. I love me some haunted corn mazes, haunted houses, pumpkin patches, hay rides, I love it all. If you haven't taken a look yet at Fright Guide 2010, do that... http://wmyx.radiotown.com/fg2010/home.asp.htm but here are my 2 cents on what's best in town for haunted fun.
1. Meadowbrook Pumpkin Farm's Haunted Cornfield (http://www.meadowbrookfun.com/hauntedcornfield.php). This one's in West Bend. I've gone almost every year since 2003. Haunted corn mazes are always extra creepy because a.) they're outdoors, in the dark and you feel like you're in the movie Signs, and b.) you're pretty confined with the corn on both sides, more so than a haunted house and you just never know when a clown with fangs is going to jump out and get you. These guys make this haunted corn maze better and better ever year. I was very impressed when I went this year, it's bomb, go! It's scary, not over the top though, you'll have fun, and you'll get your money's worth. Check this video out that they threw together:
2. Wisconsin Feargrounds (in Waukesha). Four haunted houses, all pretty different from each other. One or two are actually pretty scary and then the others are trippy. I didn't care for the last one because it's basically just a building with a maze that's difficult to get through because they've got a bunch of fog machines going. The other one is also a maze, a few creepy characters, but the whole deal is that it's hard to get through because it's pitch black. Some scary stuff, some trippy stuff, overall, fun.
3. The Family Farm (http://www.familyfarm.net/). This one, not so scary but perhaps you would like somewhere fun to take the kids that offers some extremely delicious pumpkin pie? Go here. Also, Retzlaffs Pumpkins on Pioneer, they're pretty decent too but I haven't checked them out since they moved to their new location in Jackson. When they were in Cedarburg, they had lots of fun stuff for the kids (petting zoo, pumpkin patch, hay rides) and a few "light" haunted festivities. Give 'em a shot.
